I am SO tempted to offer to write "If on a winter's night a traveller" for Yuletide. Except, well, I haven't finished it yet (well: I have most of the final third to go but I've read the last two chapters: it's just that I keep getting bogged down in the Russian novels he keeps putting in the middle. Then, of course, in order that I over-identify with Reader, he keeps cutting them off just as I get into them, which is very clever and all but heeeeey also kind of mean.) But mostly what's putting me off is: what in the world would someone request? (I thought maybe someone wanted that hot threesome from the one in the middle with the rebellion, two male soldiers, and that woman. But no, the only characters given are You, Reader, and Other Reader, by whom I guess they mean Ludmilla?)
Per my Dreamwidth icon for this post, next year I'm so requesting archy & mehitabel. LJ denizens, my icon is the last five lines of CAPITALS AT LAST. |

Also, because apparently this is an Issue this year, I am posting my letter now because that way I can include a link in my sign-up, and since I personally spent hours and hours and HOURS last year scrolling through the Yuletide Letter post last year, I want to encourage behaviour that makes me NOT have to do that. Pairings: Gaeta/Hoshi, Pilot!Eight/Engineer!Two, Kara/Sam, the Tighs, the Agathons, Adama/Roslin, Boomer/Tyrol, Baltar/Caprica Six, Thornton/Sian, Sweet!Eight/OC!Four, Zarek/Racetrack
Warnings: Contains rape. The actual rape happens off-screen and is not the main plot, but the impact of it echoes through the rest of the fic. In addition to the rape, there is other talk of sexual assault, including referencing The Farm. If you would like more details in terms of who the assailants are, who the victim is, and what's going on, highlight: The rapists are the Sunshine Boys and the two Marines that were helping hold Athena down in Pegasus, and the victim is Hoshi. The rape takes place for reasons that are purely violent and meant as revenge, and this is not a hurt/comfort fic. (Not saying that Hoshi doesn't heal at all- just it's not the H/C genre.) As mentioned, the rape takes place off-screen, but Hoshi deals extensively with the fall-out through the rest of the story, and it very much influences his actions. Other warnings include torture, miscarriage (neither one is graphic), and character death.
Summary: Raptor 718 wasn't lost randomly; an Eight on board was ready to switch sides in the Cylon civil war. With the passengers of Raptor 718 being held prisoner on the Colony, the events on Galactica unfurl differently. (Season 4.5 AU fic, and Kara-poof-free.)

Huge thanks also to safenthecity, who made the off-handed comment that inspired the story. Although it's not an official prologue, my story Honor and Duty sort of serves the purpose, especially in regards to Sweet!Eight.

Thanks to everyone who voted in the Activities poll! We had just over 10% of the community vote, and it seems that the majority of votes went to:
- book discussions and re-reads
- film discussions and re-reads
- fic and art recommendations and reviews
- challenges, either character or random prompt-based
- discussions and/or recommendations of related books
These all got 15 or more votes of the 25 votes that were cast.
What I think I'll do is for each month I'll pick a book and a movie and come up with a prompt or character that links them for the challenge, and leave the reccing to you all, who probably have some favourites you want to share. The monthly challenge will be up sometime in the first week of the month, and the discussion posts will follow about a week after (which means I'll have to get my skating shoes on this month!). Now, because there are more books than movies, the movies will come up a bit more often than the books, but I'll try to get through them all before starting again.

I'm looking for a stargate SG-1 episode. It's pre-Ben Browder, and I'm pretty sure but not 100% sure that Daniel's in the episode (so not season 6). I read through the summaries on IMDB (which are awful, btw!) and wikipedia and didn't see anything that sounded like what I remembered. SG-1 are captured, or at least Jack and Sam and maybe also Daniel and Teal'c are captured, and kept in an underground or cave prison (but I'm pretty sure it's not "Beneath the Surface.") I *think* the prison is run by Goa'uld. Individual members of the team get dragged off and tortured - I particularly remember Jack being taken (but it's not "Abyss"). He hugs Sam at some point, I think, or they have otherwise affectionate times.
It's really driving me nuts! I've read all the summaries! I just want to rewatch this one episode! Sigh.
