Podcasts are the theives of time [Oct. 29th, 2007|04:40 pm]
[Current Mood | lazy]

...which is totally why I have done no study today. And not a bad case of "I-don't-care-enough-itis"

Exam Wednesday. I barely know anything. But I don't really care. ARGH. I wish I could motivate myself, but meh.

Meh and double meh.

I'm a terrible person.

Repatriation and mini rant. [Oct. 25th, 2007|04:04 pm]
[Current Mood | cranky]

Interesting piece of news, for me any way. Te Papa had been denied in it's efforts to repatriate a 19th century presevered head of a Maori warrior. They were in a "conversation" with a french museum, who offered to give the head back but were stopped by the French Ministry of Culture. The guy who's organising this is quietly optimistic, pointing out that they only started in June.

http://www.tv3.co.nz/News/NationalNews/tabid/184/Default.aspx?ArticleID=37706

Still: These heads being particularly sacred in Maori culture (I think-feel free to correct me if I'm wrong), I wonder what the French Ministry's reasons are for keeping the head. I know they may not know about how special they are, but still, I think maybe the indigenous groups' feelings on this issue should be respected.

Thoughts?

Also: Will our politicians please stop acting like bloody three year olds? For God's sake. These are the people who are supposed to be representing us.

Also: After next year, I'm never knitting anything for anyone ever again. Unless I have made a promise to you within the previous months, I'm refusing. Eugh.   My time is precious, and I'm sick of people
a) assuming I will knit them something.
b)Not appreciating what I make them.
No. More.
Eugh.

Curioser and Curioser [Oct. 23rd, 2007|07:07 pm]
[Current Mood | content]

So, what's been happening in my not exciting life?

Well, I went to a party with all of Layne's mates, and that was pretty cool. If the company's good then alcohol is most definately not needed to have a great time :)

I haven't been studying for exams and frankly, I couldn't care less.

Ravelry is made of awesome, srsly.

Organised my holiday work hours; Just doing two extra days.  Stood up to Mum for the first time in ages:

Me: *informs Mum of hours*
Mum: Only two extra days? But wouldn't it be better if...
Me: My hours are not up for discussion.
Mum: *pwned*

It felt good. I need to do it more often.

And I'm buying a new knitting book. It's insanely gorgeous and  tofuloupe, I'm giving you some patterns, because I feel you lack garments in your queue :P And totally need to find other ways to justify all the pattern books I'm buying

Listening to my audio books still. Have I mentioned that I love Daphne Du Maurier's Rebecca?

Favourite things: blogs [Oct. 16th, 2007|08:40 pm]
 http://www.pamshouseblend.com/frontPage.do

Pam's house Blend. Just discovered this one, but any blog the fundies call,
"leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy*,"
must be pretty cool. I like what I've been seeing so far. (American).

http://shakespearessister.blogspot.com/

Also american, with a diverse range of posters and topics. Sometimes serious, sometimes not.  Some of the stuff in here is scary shit, and some will make you want to smash things.

There's also "The Fundy Post" but I can't get it to work atm.

She's alive, but it was a close thing. [Oct. 15th, 2007|06:53 pm]
[Current Mood | silly]

I am in the midst of an attempt to tidy my yarn drawer. BIG mistake. It's funny; I could have sworn I didn't have that much yarn. But I do.  It's sitting there, a humungous pile, like some behemoth made of wool, acyrlic and that feathers stuff that just appears in every knitter's stash at some point. It's quite frightening. Both the amount and the random feathers stuff. I swear I didn't buy any.

SO: If I do not update in less than a month, I have been buried in yarn.

And in other (old) news [Sep. 27th, 2007|07:28 pm]
....that is not entirely suprising, Bill English's son is homophobic. Gee. Really? With a Dad like that? Surely not!

And now, Daddy dearest is upset.

*Cough*

Also: Stats on Queer youth suicide. A bit obvious, Gaynz.com, but we know that your hearts are in the right place. I was lucky; I was never bullied outright. But for all the kids who have...

What really fucks me off about this is that Bill English and John Keyes are going, "OH NOES THE PRECIOUS BABY GRR EVIL."

Because, y'know, it's perfectly ok for Bill English's kid to say shit like,

"Conclusive scientific evidence suggests that emos are more hated than both blacks and Jews combined, and for goods reason too."

"Quite frankly, you're all a bunch of skinny, white whiney faggots who are constantly complaining about how much pain you are suffering."

Without getting called out on it. Are you feeling the Christian love? I sure am.  He can make attacks on Queer folk but Queer folk can't make an attack on him?  If he's a politician's son, all the more reason to draw attention to him. He certainly didn't just get these attitudes from school. We know Bill English's history.  This is not acceptable. Even worse is that neither Bill English or John Keyes have apologised or criticised the comments. They've completely ignored them.

Sometimes I'm sick of turning the other cheek. In fact, this time, I won't.

*NIKSMASH*

Oh, and here's a video clip.

Hey Mama, Welcome to the 60s [Sep. 27th, 2007|05:55 pm]

OMG YAY.

You signed up on July 20, 2007

  • You are #19151 on the list.
  • 861 people are ahead of you in line.
  • 17233 people are behind you in line.
  • 50% of the list has been invited so far

That will, of course, only make sense to Tofoloupe. In fact, this entire post will probably only make sense to Tofoloupe.

I'm addicted to collecting patterns and I don't know how to stop. For serious. I must have enough to clothe me for a lifetime but I just can't quit! . it doesn't help that Knitworld have reduced their new Rowan book from $60 to $40.

    Argh. Argh. Argh.

    Suggestions?

    Gah [Sep. 20th, 2007|04:20 pm]
So, I've done all the planning for ANth-essay-that-I-have-to-write in an-afternoon, but have frozen because I can't think of how to start it. I'm going to clean my room and THINK about it.

    Meh.

Big Woman, you made a bad boy out of me [Sep. 18th, 2007|04:55 pm]
    - Fat Bottom Girls again. Yeah, favourite song, pretty much.

SO: Tonight, have to write 1,700 words.

    Can I do it?

    Of course.

Side note: Had a run in with "The A-Team" today. For the uniniated/non vic uni people, they're the right wingers who are going to refund $25 dollars from our VUWSA levy, and cut ALL funding to Rep Groups. Not sure what that's supposed to do but fuck up the rep groups.

The guy who's running for President comes up to me, hand outstreched. He's a nice looking lad, in a Harry Potter sort of vein. He says,
    "hello, I'm...."
I had spent all week trying to think up some witty reply if the A-Team came up to me, but all I came up with in the actual situation was,
    "Ewwww, no thanks."

I feel proud that I wasn't nasty to him. It was tempting, but no. I ROSE ABOVE IT.

Probably for the first and last time in my life.

    [Current Music |Fat Bottom Girls-Queen]

-Fat Bottom Girls. Is it wrong that I love this song?

I need some morale, tonight, kids.  640 words to go on my unedited History essay. 200 on my Spanish composition; 1500 on my unstarted Anth essay. I;m trying to get them done by Wednesday. Wish me luck!

    I'm off to get tea.

    (Feeling much better now, unsuprisingly.)

An improbably hot nuclear scientist called...Christmas [Sep. 12th, 2007|09:21 am]
-Geek Survival Guide Podcast 12# Henchmen

I have 1,200 words to write today. Like other peeps on LJ *waves to Alice* I have an essay to write. But not a second year essay, thank god *waves at Alice again*.

So, in the spirit of this, I have put on my robot earrings. Nothing says "I mean business" like robot earrings.

I also have a doctor's appointment tonight. Meh. Nothing terrible, it's just that Mum's worried about a few spots on my stomach *sigh* Means I have to miss Sci-fi club again. MEH.

    Note to self:

When your yarn stash no longer fits in its drawer, then it may be time to STOP BUYING YARN.

    *cough*

Spotlight had a sale on. What can I say?

Well, it's my shrug, Mum's present, and about 6 million hats worked out.

If you're wondering what the hell that's all about, it's the waiting list for Ravelry, the knitting community to end all knitting communities. It's like the Elder stone, Philosopher's Stone, One Ring AND Excalibur of knitting communities. For serious. (ravelry.com)

In other news I've been feeling grungy. The cold, assignments and general ill health have not helped. 3 due in the next two weeks. One I haven't EVEN  STARTED. Oh. Whoops.

I have broken out of my knitting hiatus, with a magnificent knitted hexagon. I'm thinking of turning it into a broach, or something.

ALSO: My brother's girlfriend may be moving in with us. More news as it comes...

Stuff I have done today instead of my assignments:

    1)Baked cookies
    2)Tidied my room
    3)Taught myself to crochet
    4) Wrote six and half pages in my journal (Saving you from EMO since Thursday morning)

I guess I'm taking procrastination to a whole new level, huh?

This is what's called 'productive procrastination.' :P

    She's dead...wrapped in plastic! [Aug. 24th, 2007|08:23 pm]
    [Current Mood | lazy]

Well, not quite. But almost. Have worked everyday this week but Wednesday. Was at work from 9 till 7 tonight.

My last few days have been terrible, but today was good; I worked in Handbags-we made good sales-and the Fragrance counter which I LOVE. I spent the last two hours testing all the different perfumes, and giving them to people to try. Fun times!

So what to do now? Unfortunately I'm broke, tired and sore. I also have my pretty polka dot dress on which is made of pretty and win.

I think I'll have an evening of pointless self indulgence; trying on different outfits, flicking through my knitting books, writing my Christmas list (yes, I DO find that fun) MST3K, Look Around You, and Bic Runga. If I'm feeling really 'out there' I'll have a bath later on :P

And to those who may have texted me today, I apologise. My phone died :(
